I have to say I've been pleasantly suprised with the public outpouring following the recent run of high profile gay suicides. While political candidates seem to be largely ignoring the issue and the media sometimes has a tendency to leave the gay aspect out of bullying, it's nice that the conversation is continuing. I've been trying to keep up with the It Gets Better Project but the results have been overwhelming. I did like this video from one of my crushes, Next To Normal star Kyle Dean Massey. Kyle Dean also sat down with After Elton to talk about bullying, growing up gay in a small town and being out. Also a group of young Broadway actors got together to produce this "It Gets Better" single. It's supposed to be available on iTunes so if anyone has the link send it my way.
A reader sent in this video of Fort Worth councilman Joel Burns' emotional personal statement from a City Council meeting last week. What have been your favorite "It Get Better" videos?

The Jefferyself and Guy Branum video was easily the best, and one of the earliest. Found over here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46cJRh8Hj_o . Brought a little bit of comedy to this issue, to lighten the mood a tad.

These clips were painful to watch. My life was hell when I was thirteen. The only reason I'm here at all was to spare my dysfunctional family, who didn't really know me at all, the tragedy that would have destroyed them completely.
I recently read an article by an Australian lesbian who was upset at the gay bullying, but she pointed out that the Aborigine youth suicide rate, straight and gay, was almost twice that of their white counterparts.
Gay youth are not the only ones who fear there is no hope and have to endure abuse from there peers and society in general. Yes, bullying must stop. It can no longer be ignored as it was in Nazi Germany. But prejudice itself must stop if civilization is to survive.
No more calling someone "fatso," "nigger," "Jew," or "fagot!" No more religious intolerance! The only thing I'm prejudice about is stupidity. And that seems to be running rampant.
Thanks for the opportunity to speak.

Joel Burns is a hero, plain and simple. I hope he sparks The Change.
