I'm always looking for comic books to recommend to non-comics readers. The first Unwritten collection was recently released and it's a great mixture of mystery and fantasy. The series stars Harry Potter like main character who's trying to figure out if he's real or just a fictional character his father created. If you're looking for comics today new issues of Uncanny X-Men, Brave & The Bold & Dark Avengers are in stores. DC's big event continues with a new issue of Blackest Night: Flash and a back from cancellation issue of James Robinson's Starman. If that's not enough you can also pick up new issues of Batman: Streets of Gotham, Fables and Grant Morrison's new series Joe The Barbarian.

At the San Diego Comic Con, I had so many people tell me I'd love The Unwritten. Now that it's out in trade I'll have to check it out. If I'm lucky, I'll even find it at my library. Or, as I like to call it, "struggling filmmaker's comic shop."
